It Hasn't Even Been a Week?!

The New Reality
I had forgotten the "wonderful music" that bellows from the lung pipes of a newborn.

Here we were a few minutes before we left the hospital early Monday afternoon. I thought Becka looked like she been for a walk in the park not through the valley of the shadow of death giving birth.
Leaving the hospital

We are still trying to figure out who he looks like on either side of our families and we really can't. Here he really looks a lot like Jackson just after he was born.

As much as I don't really miss the "music," I really do enjoy having a newborn to hold again.
Beautiful Mama - not quite two days after Alex was born.

You really forget how small they are.

Despite everyone thinking that somehow Jackson was going to turn into this monster from you-know-where the second he came home with Alex, he really hasn't missed a beat. He is the same old lovable Jackson, and he really loves having Alex around. There is no sign of the horns everyone seemed to think were lurking below the surface of his little head.

It was only about 50 degrees or less today, and he couldn't wait to get permission to go outside. He figured out how to ride his bike about 6 months ago, but hadn't really been able to because the grass was too hard to ride in. I brought his bike on the deck and now he thinks he's a racecar driver. His favorite race car driver is Denny Hamwin. Just ask him.

He loves holding Alex any chance he gets. He's learning how to be gentle. He really is and will be a good big brother.

Nobody told him to do this. Purely his idea!

He is always staring at him and talking to him.

Alex Daniel Boots

Be sure to look at the post below this one for more details and pictures.

Thought this picture showed his hair pretty well. He has a good bit, and it is just a little darker than Jackson's was.

Its not all been fun and games. Although he has been very good and hasn't cried much, this picture proves he is a human baby.

Our Second Miracle Is Born

Alex Daniel Boots
Born November 10, 2012 at 4:01 p.m.
7 lbs 11 oz
21 inches long

This was our second miracle from God, Jackson being our first. It is nothing less than the mighty hand of God that can give life and make it so special. Alex Daniel (named after my Dad's middle name - Jackson's middle name, Anthony, reflects Becka's Dad's middle name) was born at 4:01 this afternoon. Becka was 9 days overdue, but finally went into consistent labor about 6:00 this morning. At 10:30 we were on our way to the hospital, and it was only a few hours later  that the little guy made his way out into the world with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. Dr. Sterlacci, who was on call this weekend, expertly flipped it over his head and made it look like there was never an issue. She was very good. Our attending nurse was very good from start to finsh, as well. Hopefully the next few days will generate some better pictures, but these will do for now.

Just minutes after he was born.

He was alert and looking around from the minute after he was born, and as I type this at midnight, he is still that way.

Could never tell this was 30 minutes after having a baby!

Very good doctor (Dr. Sterlacci, left) and nurse, (Rachel Gilman, right) who did their jobs very well.

Jackson's first encounter was a good one. He told us yesterday, "I'm so excited for my little brother." Of course, he calls him "Awex."

And lest we leave Jackson completely out of it, I have some pictures of him I haven't put up yet.

He happened to see a PBR (professional bull riding) event so our nightly ritual has now turned into me being the bull and him being the rider - EVERY night. And as in the picture below, he wants me to ride him, too.

And somehow I have to be the pilot and he is the airplane while we fly to every room and eventually land in his bed.

And he finally got the hang of riding his bike. He races around the back deck like his favorite race car driver, Denny Hamlin (FedEx #11 driver - top 5 right now in points in NASCAR - from Chesterfield). You should see him slam on the brakes. He's outside all day every day and gets disappointed when he has to come in after dark.
